ROCKAWAY PARK — A section of the boardwalk still under construction after wind-related delays is set to open next Saturday — weeks earlier than the July opening date originally announced by the city, officials said.

The boardwalk from Beach 109 to Beach 115th streets is expected to be open as of June 18, according to the Parks Department.

Beaches along the stretch, which had been closed during construction, will also be open.

Rockaway Park's boardwalk, from Beach 108th to Beach 126th street, was supposed to open by Memorial Day but faced construction delays due to regulations following the deadly crane collapse in Lower Manhattan in February, officials said.

New rules required cranes to be put in "safety modes" when winds hit 20 mph, or had wind gusts predicted to exceed 30 mph, according to the city.

Beach access is still limited between Beach 115 and Beach 126th streets as the boardwalk construction there continues.

A spokeswoman with the Parks Department said they "are continuing to push forward to get the remaining section open as quickly as possible in July."
