CRIME BLOTTER: Woman Dressed as Verizon Worker Robs Crown Heights Man

CROWN HEIGHTS — Police are looking for a woman who robbed a man inside his Bedford Avenue apartment while she was dressed as a Verizon worker Monday.

The woman showed up at 1597 Bedford Ave. around 9:30 a.m. dressed as a Verizon employee, complete with a badge, the victim told police. She said she could lower the man’s monthly bill if he showed her his previous Verizon statement from the month before.

When the man give her a copy of the bill, she sprayed him in the face with an unknown substance, snatched his wallet and fled on foot. Police said the woman then jumped into a dark colored Nissan sedan, which fled northbound on the avenue.

The male victim was uninjured in the assault.

► A 42-year-old man was arrested for smashing the glass windows of a fried chicken restaurant after workers told him to leave the eatery. The man came into the Crown Fried Chicken restaurant at 580 Albany Ave. around 3:15 p.m. on May 4 and began harassing customers, workers told police. When the workers told him to leave, he went outside and picked up a milk crate, when hurled into the glass windows at the front of the shop, breaking them. He was arrested soon afterwards.

► A 35-year-old woman was robbed while waiting for the bus near Utica Avenue. The woman told police she was waiting for the bus at the corner of Eastern Parkway and Utica Avenue around 1 a.m. on May 5 when an unknown man came up behind her and snatched her purse containing her green card, credit card and $30. The man fled on foot northbound.

► A 15-year-old was robbed by another teen as he walked home from school. The boy was walking along Union Street and Nostrand Avenue around 3:30 p.m. when a boy around 17 years old came up behind him and said “get off my block before I jump you,” then snatched his iPhone 6 out of his hand and fled on foot.

► A thief broke a window of a work vehicle on Crown Street and stole $6,000 from inside, police said. The incident happened around 10 p.m. as the car — a business vehicle for an Empire Boulevard bicycle shop — was parked on Crown Street between Kingston and Albany avenues. The owner of the car said someone broke the vehicle’s window and took the money from a cash register sitting in the back.

► A 41-year-old woman was standing on the corner of Maple Street and Bedford Avenue around 3 p.m. on May 7 when a man ran up to her and snatched her wallet out of her hand, which contained $200 in cash, her Social Security card and green card. The man fled on foot, police said.
