Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) was a urban activist who championed a community-based approach to city building. In her memory, The Municipal Art Society of New York holds a weekend of annual neighborhood walks. Choose from over 100 walks on the Jane’s Walk website. To attend a walk, simply meet the walk leader at the listed meeting location and time.

Bike the Branches
Where? Throughout Brooklyn - Register in advance for a group caravan ride or choose your own route
When? 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
How Much? Free
Bike the Branches lets you explore Brooklyn's cultural hubs, diverse neighborhoods, local eateries and breathtaking views and discover your network of 60 neighborhood libraries. Pick up your library passport and fill it with stamps at each stop.

How Much? Free
Join the Bronx River Alliance in kicking off the water recreation season. Take the Historic Ramble at 11 a.m., which starts at Concrete Plant Park and ends at Hunts Point Riverside Park. There you can greet the river paddlers and enjoy an afternoon of free activities from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.. You can do some rowing for free courtesy of Rocking the Boat. Activities will be provided by the Bronx Children’s Museum and there will be a poetry performance by The Peace Poets.
Identification Day
Where? American Museum of Natural History, Central Park West at 79th Street, Upper West Side
When? 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
How Much? Free with museum admission
Bring your own specimens and museum scientists will attempt to identify your discoveries while showing you some specimens from the Museum's rarely seen collections. The American Museum of Natural History's Identification Day was inspired by the legacy of Theodore Roosevelt.

The Bronx Book Fair
Where? Bronx Library Center, 310 East Kingsbridge Road, Fordham

How Much? Free
Small publishers from far and wide will gather to create a pop-up bookstore at the Bronx Library Center.
Free Roller Skating
Where? Brooklyn Bridge Park Roller Rink, Pier 2, Columbia Waterfront District
When? 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
How Much? Entry is free. Skate rental is $6.
Brooklyn Bridge Park Roller Rink is offering free skating between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
