CROWN HEIGHTS — Police have charged a 33-year-old man in connection to last week's wild shootout on Union Street that injured two men, including one who was struck by nearly a dozen bullets and remains hospitalized, police said.

Crown Heights resident Artis Murphy was arrested hours after the April 22 shooting at 1004 Union St., near Franklin Avenue, when investigators identified him in surveillance footage firing a handgun during the incident, police said.

Murphy faces criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment charges, court records show.

He is not, however, suspected of injuring either of the men hospitalized after the shooting. Sources said Murphy was aiming for their assailant, shooting back at the male suspect as gunfire broke out about 2:15 a.m.

The 24-year-old critically injured during the incident was still being treated at Kings County Hospital as of Thursday, sources said. He was shot multiple times in the lower abdomen and legs, police said.

Murphy is being held in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $7,500 bond, court records show. His attorney from Brooklyn Defender Services could not immediately be reached for comment.

The second shooter in the gunfight is still at large, police said.

The above arrest is part of DNAinfo’s weekly crime blotter compiled from reports to the 71st Precinct in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, Crown Heights and East Flatbush.
