103-Year-Old Woman Mugged for $30, Prosecutors Say

THE BRONX — A mugger was held on $100,000 bail after she barged into a 103-year-old woman's Co-Op City building, knocked her to the ground and stole $30 Friday, records show.

Sharon McNeil, 53, followed the victim, who was pushing a blue shopping cart, into the elevator of her Bellamy Loop building about 2:30 p.m. and up to the eighth floor where she lives before attacking her, officials said.

McNeil, who was pushing her own red shopping cart, yanked the cart away and shoved the 103-year-old to the ground, prosecutors said.

The victim "suffered substantial pain" with a swelling bump on the back of her head and soreness across the left side of her body, prosecutors said. She refused medical attention at the scene, police said.

McNeil stole the shopping cart with the victim's wallet containing $30 and got back onto the elevator to flee the scene, prosecutors said.

McNeil, who lives in Allerton, was later arrested and charged with robbery, assault and harassment, prosecutors said.

She was held on $100,000 bond by a judge who expressed shock that she attacked such an old woman, according to prosecutors and the Daily News.

"Oh, my goodness. Oh, my goodness," Judge Ralph Fabrizio said during McNeil's arraignment.

McNeil's been arrested about 29 times before, most recently in November 2013, according to an NYPD.

She is due back in court on Friday, records show.
