BROOKLYN — A man who randomly slashed a woman across the neck in broad daylight while wearing an American flag bandana in Prospect Park South has been arrested in New  Jersey, police said.

Gregory Alfred, 25, was taken into custody for the March 10 attack in which he came up behind a woman outside 1304 Beverley Road, near Argyle Road, about 9:48 a.m. and slashed her with a kitchen knife, NYPD officials announced on Twitter Sunday.

The woman lay bloodied on the sidewalk as Alfred fled the scene, dropping the knife and his patriotic bandana, witnesses said.

"The cut was pretty big around her neck. I took my shirt off and wrapped it around her neck," said a good Samaritan who gave her name as Shannon.

The victim was treated at Maimonides Medical Center for minor injuries, officials said.

Alfred managed to evade capture until this weekend when investigators finally caught up to him, officials said.

An NYPD spokeswoman said she didn't know the circumstances of his arrest or where in New Jersey he was found, but said formal charges against Alfred were still pending Monday morning.
