Woman Sexually Assaulted by Men Claiming to be Con Ed Workers, NYPD Says

THE BRONX — A woman was tied to her coffee table and sexually assaulted in her Bronx apartment by two men who claimed they were with Con Ed and stole $50 Monday afternoon, police said.

The 26-year-old woman opened her door in the Olinville section of the borough about 1:20 p.m. when the duo said they were with the utility company and pushed their way in, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

One man tied her to her coffee table and pulled down her pants while the other grabbed a knife from the kitchen, police said.

After sexually assaulting her, they grabbed some cash and fled the scene, police said. They hadn't been arrested as of Tuesday morning, police said.

The woman was treated at Jacobi Medical Center, police said.

One of the attackers wore a black hoodie and the other wore a green one, an NYPD spokesman said.

After the attack, Con Ed warned New Yorkers to beware of potential imposters.

"Con Edison employees carry identification cards with their photo, name and the company's name and logo," a spokesman for the utility said Tuesday.

Anyone can call Con Ed to check a worker's legitimacy at (800) 752-6633 and report imposters by calling 911.
