CARROLL GARDENS — A father walking his child home from school was punched in the face by a man in Carroll Gardens last month, police said.

The 49-year-old dad was walking with his fifth-grade child near Smith and Nelson streets Feb. 3 around 3:45 p.m. when he was approached by a 45-year-old man, police said.

The second man hit the victim in the mouth and chipped his tooth, police said.

The injured dad then snapped a picture of the 45-year-old man, who he did not know, according to the police report.

Authorities say that the man who punched the victim was also a parent at the same school.

Officials issued a desk appearance ticket for the 45-year-old man, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney's office.

Other notable crimes in the 76th Precinct, according to police, include:

► A man was arrested for selling cocaine in front of the Red Hook Community Justice Center on Visitation Place on Feb. 29 at 9:48 a.m. The 31-year-old man was charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance, police said.

► A 27-year-old woman was arrested for trying to steal two bottles of Mike's Hard Punch from a Hicks Street bodega Feb. 18.

Overall, major crime in the 76th Precinct has dropped 28 percent this year compared to the same period in 2015, recent NYPD records show. Between Jan. 1 and Feb. 21, 2016, there were 53 major crimes. In the same period in 2015, there were 74.
