EDGEMERE — An 18-year-old man ran half a block to a friend's apartment after he was shot in the back Monday afternoon, police said.

The victim, who has not been identified, was shot near a clothing donation bin at the corner of Beach 55th Street and Arverne Boulevard at roughly 2:30 p.m., police said.

He then ran half a block to the Ocean Bay Houses, where sources said a friend lives.

He was taken to Jamaica Hospital and is in stable condition, police said.

A worker at On and On Express Deli, who declined to give his name, said he heard three shots outside but it "sounded like a hammer."

"This happens like every month," he said of shootings on the street. "I didn't pay no mind."

Officials did not have information on a suspect.
