BROOKLYN — A woman was charged with assaulting a police officer after a plainclothes NYPD officer was slashed across the face while trying to break up a fight in Brownsville Sunday morning, police said.

Xiomara Velez, 27, was arrested after Officer Denisha T. Pierre was cut with a box cutter as she tried to break up a brawl on Saratoga Avenue and Marion Street about 1:10 a.m., according to the NYPD and court documents.

Pierre, who is assigned to the Brooklyn North anti-crime unit, was taken to Methodist Hospital and treated for her injuries. It was not clear if she needed stitches, police said.

Velez was arraigned Monday on charges including second degree assault, resisting arrest and criminal possession of a weapon.
