Bluesman Blames Recent 'Fashion of Slashin'' on de Blasio

By Aidan Gardiner | February 19, 2016 11:10am

With knife-wielding madmen prowling New York's blood-soaked streets, a courageous musician — nay, poet — sang truth to power and blamed the city's leadership for the recent violence.

"Mayor de Blasio/ He brought it to town./ There's a fashion in Manhattan./ It's called slashin', yo," the singing sage growls in a 1:54 video posted Friday morning.

"We got the slashin' blues!/ You walking down the street/ on your two feet/ some guy comes up/ and slash you in the face," said the man who goes by the Youtube handle messiahsez.

Gotham's guitar hero debuted his latest opus after a spate of slashings across the city.

A 24-year-old woman was randomly slashed in Chelsea on Jan. 6. A man got 150 stitches after being slashed ten days later. Then on Jan. 25, a 71-year-old woman was slashed on the D train.

A cabbie may never smile normally again after a passenger slashed him Tuesday.

On Wednesday night, a busboy was slashed across the cheek when he kicked a teen out of a Greenwich Village diner for asking eaters for money.

And a man who cut a line outside a SoHo clothing store was slashed across the face for cutting in line Thursday afternoon.

NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton has tried to downplay the string of attacks saying they are not part of a pattern, but rather seem more frequent because of increased police and media attention.

"A couple of weeks ago we were talking about rapes," the commissioner said.

"Before that it was shootings. Before that it was murder."
