THE BRONX — A woman was slashed across the face less than a block from her Bronx home early Friday morning, according to the NYPD and sources, the latest in a series of similar attacks in the city.
The 20-year-old woman was walking on Holland Avenue a little after midnight when a man approached her from behind, grabbed her right hand and then tried to snatch her cell phone, an NYPD spokeswoman said.
The man then slashed the woman from her ear to her chin and then kicked her after she fell to the ground, sources said.
He then fled without getting her phone.
The woman was treated at Jacobi Hospital and received multiple stitches, WABC reported.
"I was screaming as loud as I can so I guess that kind of frightened him, and he ran the other way," the woman told WABC.
There have been a series of random slashings and stabbings this year, including a number of unprovoked attacks in the subway.
The suspected slasher has not yet been apprehended, according to police.
