THE BRONX — A man was arrested in Maryland a day after shooting his wife in their Williamsbridge home Christmas morning, police said.

Rafael Herrera, 37, was picked up in Prince George and accused with shooting his wife Yadira Perea Saavedra, 27, in the neck and arm at about 9:54 a.m. in their home near East 220th Street and Paulding Avenue, NYPD officials said.

Herrera was still awaiting extradition back to New York Monday morning, an NYPD spokesman said.

The victim's brother, who also lives in the home, raced to the building after his wife told him what happened.

The brother, Sergio Perea Saavedra, found his sister lying on the floor, he said.

Saavedra was treated at Jacobi Medical Center where she was listed in stable condition, police said.

Her brother frequently heard the husband and wife fighting, he said.

"Sometimes he'd say, 'I wanna kill you, I wanna kill you,' but I didn't think he'd do it," Saavedra said.
