Woman Robbed in Prospect Park During Early Morning Jog, Police Say

PARK SLOPE — A woman out for an early morning run in Prospect Park was pushed to the ground by a thief who stole her cell phone, according to a police report.

The 36-year-old woman was jogging on East Drive near the LeFrak Center at Lakeside at 6:35 a.m. on Nov. 11 when a man knocked her over and swiped her iPhone 6. The woman was bruised on her elbow, shoulder and head, according to the report.

The thief ran toward Parkside Avenue and disabled the phone's Find My iPhone app, the report stated.

Other notable recent crimes in the 78th Precinct include the following, with details drawn from police reports:

► A woman had her purse and a cooler full of breast milk stolen Nov. 15 at 10:30 a.m. while she was changing her baby's diaper in an SUV on Union Street near Eighth Avenue. The purse and cooler were in a stroller next to the car when the theft happened.

► A man with a child who appeared to be about 3 years old was spotted on surveillance video stealing a backpack that belonged to a 29-year-old employee of Dinosaur Bar-B-Que on Union Street and Fourth Avenue on Nov. 12 at about 11:35 a.m.

► More than $10,000 in plants and garden decorations were stolen from a front yard on Second Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues Nov. 11. The thieves broke a lock on a gate and swiped 39 plants, six lion sculptures, four angel sculptures, and 49 other outdoor decorations.

► A 44-year-old mom had her purse stolen after she left it hanging on the back of her stroller inside La Bagel Delight on Nov 12. The purse contained the woman's U.S. work visa, wallet, social security card, checkbook and $500 in cash.

Overall in the 78th Precinct, major crimes have increased 3.33 percent this year compared to the same period in 2014, according to the most recent statistics from the NYPD.
