First there was Quooklyn. Now Downtown Queens?
Neil Patrick Harris' new NBC variety show "Best Time Ever" is filmed at Kaufman Astoria Studios in Astoria, where the actor snapped a selfie earlier this fall in front of the well-known studio gates on 35th Avenue.
But many locals are perplexed by the opening line of the show — which aired its season finale on Monday — where an announcer claims the broadcast is coming "live from beautiful downtown Queens."
We've heard of downtown Jamaica and downtown Flushing, but downtown Queens? Not a thing, many residents were eager to argue on social media.
What the heck is downtown Queens? That's not a thing. #BestBoroughEverHasNoDowntown @ActuallyNPH @BestTimeEver #BestTimeEver

Hey @BestTimeEver....where is Downtown Queens? #nope #astoria

The moniker appears to be the latest in a string of invented neighborhood names that nobody actually uses — from "ChiBeCa" to the more recent and generally loathed South Bronx "Piano District."
Does Queens have a downtown? Should Astoria accept the nickname? Let us know in the comments.
UPDATE: A reader on Twitter alerted us that "downtown Queens," is likely referring to the opening lines of another NBC variety show from the late '60s — "Laugh-In," where announcer Gary Owens reads the opening credits "from beautiful downtown Burbank."
.@ActuallyNPH is prob alluding to the phrase "beautiful Downtown Burbank" used on the "Laugh-In" TV show in the 60's https://t.co/ttWsRqCfWB
