► “or, The Whale”

Where: Lehigh Valley Barge No. 79, 290 Conover St., Red Hook
When: Oct. 23 to Oct. 24, 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 24, 2 p.m.

Relive Captain Ahab’s journey through the seas in search of Moby Dick in this stage adaptation of Herman Melville’s classic novel. The play was written, directed and produced by Threadbare Theatre Workshop. Tickets are priced at $18.
 

Friday, Oct. 23

“Little Shop of Horrors” Movie Screening

Where: Carroll Park, Carroll Gardens
When: 7 p.m.

Start your Halloween celebrations early with a screening of the classic horror rock musical in Carroll Park.

► Brooklyn Brownstone Jazz Fest and Fish Fry

Where: Sankofa Akban Bed and Breakfast, 107 Macon St., Bed-Stuy
When: 8:45 p.m.

Listen to live salon jazz and hear stories of music and community at this brownstone show. Food is served during intermission, and the night continues with an open mic session. Tickets start at $40.
 

Saturday, Oct. 24

“Scary-oke” Karaoke Party

Where: Carroll Park, Carroll Gardens
When: 6 to 9 p.m.

Belt out your favorite ghoulish tunes at the park’s annual Halloween-themed karaoke session.

► The Harvest Festival

Where: Pier 6 at Brooklyn Bridge Park
When: 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Bring your kids to Brooklyn Bridge Park for the annual Harvest Festival with pumpkin carving, storytelling, arts and crafts and live musical performances. The celebration will also include the official opening of new parkland at Pier 6.

East New York’s 6th Annual Pie Contest

Where: 613 New Lots Ave., East New York
When: 11 a.m.

East Brooklyn’s best bakers go head to head in this annual pie contest. Chow down on free sweet and savory samples and enjoy some hot apple cider, or paint pumpkins and masks at the festivities. A DJ will be on hand to spin tunes and visitors can take advantage of a fall photo booth. For those interested in entering the contest, pies must be in by 9:45 a.m.

Saturday Open Drawing Sessions    

Where: Pratt Institute campus, East Bldg 401: Foundation Studio between Dekalb Avenue and Willoughby Avenue near Hall Street, Clinton Hill
When: 1 to 4 p.m.

Clinton Hill’s art school hosts a weekly, public three hour figure-drawing session. The first half of class features action poses, the second half medium-length poses. Entry costs $5.

► 6th Annual Coney Island Children's Halloween Parade

Where: Along the Riegelmann Boardwalk from West 19th Street to West 10th Street, Coney Island
When: 10 a.m.

Sun, sand and ghouls? Head to Coney Island for a Halloween parade with a costume contest, music and trick-or-treating. The parade is open to all children under 15. Organizers say that handmade Coney Island-themed costumes are encouraged but all costumes are welcome. To register for the parade, click here.

► Haunted Walk and Halloween Fair

Where: Prospect Park
When: 12 to 3 p.m.

Kids ages seven to 12 are invited to join costumed Halloween characters including werewolves, zombies and witches in this woodland walk through the Nethermead and Lookout Hill. At the Halloween Fair nearby, children of all ages can enjoy games, treats and storytelling. The event is free and open to the public.

► Ghouls and Gourds Festival

Where: Brooklyn Botanic Garden, 990 Washington Ave., Prospect Heights
When: 12 to 5 p.m.

Stilt walkers and musicians of all kinds with perform at this annual fall festival where kids of all ages can learn about creepy crawlers in the garden, visit a “pretend petting zoo” and see a larger-than-life puppet show. And, of course, costumes are encouraged! Admission to the garden is free for children under the age of 12. Adult tickets are $15.
 

Sunday, October 25

Celebrate the Release of “Wet Dog”

Where: BookCourt, 163 Court St., Cobble Hill
When: 2 p.m.

Author and pet photographer Sophie Gamand will celebrate the release of her book “Wet Dog,” which features beautifully-shot portraits of soaked pups. For the event, Gamand has partnered with Sean Casey Animal Shelter to donate towels to shelters in need.

“Terminator” at Habana Outpost Movie Night

Where: 757 Fulton St., Fort Greene
When: Around sunset, which is at 6:05 p.m.

Watch the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic on the big screen while munching on cheese-dusted corn or a Cuban sandwich at Habana Outpost’s final outdoor film of the season.

► Words Sunday Reading Series

Where: Calabar Imports, 351 Tompkins Ave., Bed-Stuy
When:  4 to 5:45 p.m.

Calabar Imports kicks off a free literary series on Sunday with two Brooklyn poets, Nicole Callihan and J.P. Howard. The sessions continue with three more readings through Dec. 13.

► “Concert for Hope” Symphony Performance

Where: Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway, Prospect Heights
When: 2 p.m.

The Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra will play Verdi, Bruch and Janacek at a performance at the Brooklyn Museum to benefit the Hope Reichbach Fund, which provides fellowships in civic leadership and community organizing. Tickets are $20; seniors and museum members pay $10.

► Howl-o-ween Block Party

Where: Sean Casey Animal Rescue, 155 E. 3rd St., Windsor Terrace
When: 12 to 5 p.m.

Bring your pup to a pet-friendly Halloween block party at the Sean Casey Animal Rescue. Enjoy live music, arts and crafts, a “Puppy Love Kissing Booth” and check out your next furry friend at their mobile adoption van.
