CITY ISLAND — Houses in City Island's first major new development in more than a decade are going fast, New York-based developer Greystone said.

On the Sound, a private waterfront condominium development containing 43 units, is now 50 percent sold, according to the company.

The gated community covering five acres along the waterfront at 226 Fordham Pl. contains a mixture of two-, three-, and four-bedroom homes with private garages and driveways. The buildings range in size from 1,407 to 3,345 square feet.

The homes also feature natural gas fireplaces, in-unit laundry machines and either an elevated terrace or a private garden. Starting prices for units are $488,000.

Amenities for the private community include a fitness center, playground, outdoor pool and clubhouse.

"We're excited about the sales progress for On the Sound on City Island," Sona Davidian of McClellan Sotheby’s International Realty, the company marketing the development, said in a statement.

"We have had a mix of buyers from young couples that grew up in the area to empty nesters looking for a unique waterfront abode in close proximity to New York City."
