CROWN HEIGHTS — Police arrested a man this week for joining a group of men in beating and stomping a 38-year-old man to death in Crown Heights last month.

Jahi Toussant, 20, of Crown Heights was arrested on Monday for beating Michael Brown, 38, outside of a Utica Avenue bodega on August 22, police said.

Toussant joined four other men in the beat-down, kicking and punching Brown, who refused medical attention at the scene of the attack, went home to sleep and was found by first responders hours later coughing up blood and intermittently losing consciousness, officials said. He was died at Interfaith Medical Center about 13 hours after the assault.

Police arrested two other men last month for their involvement in the crime. Jacob Blakney, 18, and Carlos Alvarado, 17, both of Crown Heights, were arrested on August 25 and 27, respectively. All three men have each been charged with gang assault and manslaughter for repeatedly punching and stomping Brown’s head and body, prosecutors charge.

Two other men are wanted in the assault. Police released photos of the group taken from surveillance footage at the time of Brown’s death.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).

Crown Heights Suspects

Toussant was held without bail and is due back in court on Sept. 11. Alvarado was released on $25,000 bail; Blakney remains in custody on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond, according to court records.
