PROSPECT-LEFFERTS GARDENS — The owner of a new neighborhood restaurant was shot and killed over the weekend while sitting in his car outside his home, a block away from the new cafe.

Rickie Young, 37, was inside his car at roughly 5 a.m. on Lefferts Avenue, just west of Rogers Avenue, when he was shot twice, once in the jaw and once in the left shoulder, police said.

Despite his injuries, Young drove himself about 10 blocks to Kings County Hospital, where he was treated before he died.

Young opened the Taste of Brooklyn Cafe on Lincoln Road and Rogers Avenue at the end of July after months of renovations. The new spot serves cocktails and American fare like burgers, chicken and waffles and mac-and-cheese for brunch and dinner.

It’s unclear if Young was shot by one person or a group, police said. No suspects have yet been identified and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the 71st Precinct’s detective unit at (718) 735-0501.

A viewing and memorial service for Young, who is known as “Brooklyn Tricky” to friends, is set for Thursday, Sept. 10, at The Church of God of Prophecy at 467 Rutland Rd. The viewing will take place at 4 p.m. and the service begins at 7 p.m., according to a flier for the event posted on Facebook by Young's friends.
