A lucky kitty was rescued from the Manhattan Bridge Friday afternoon after a bystander spotted him on the lower level's left lane, according to the Department of Transportation.
Office workers in DUMBO had first spotted the cat on a narrow ledge on the side of the bridge after chasing some pigeons, according to Gothamist.
“He chased a pigeon out there, and when the pigeon flew off, he kind of looked around and had an "oh s--t" realization. He paced back and forth the entire length of the archway for a long time before he figured it out,” a tipster told the blog, explaining that the cat made it safely to “the under-hanging portion of the bridge where maintenance is done.”
Gothamist contacted DOT about the cat, it wrote.
DOT ironworkers temporarily closed a lane of traffic so Animal Care Centers of NYC workers could rescue the cat, according to a DOT spokeswoman. The cat was taken to the organization’s Brooklyn Care Center, she said.
“I want to thank our crew for rescuing one of our furry friends on the Manhattan Bridge today,” said DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg.
“All in a day’s work for the women and men of NYC DOT’s Bridges division!”
