GOWANUS — Police are searching for a man who broke into an 87-year-old woman's apartment while she was in bed and stole cash from her, according to authorities and the police report.
The suspect, described as 5-foot-10 and weighing 160 pounds, dragged a 54-year-old woman out of the apartment as she opened the door at 8.30 a.m. on July 3, according to police.
He then entered the apartment and locked the door so the younger woman could not get back in, authorities said.
The man then slipped into the elderly woman's bedroom while she was laying in bed and took an envelope with $290, according to police and the report.
The suspect fled the building with the cash and a bag containing $200, police said.
Police have released footage of a man walking down the street who they believe committed the crime.
