CROWN HEIGHTS — Several new businesses have opened on Rogers Avenue this year, including a pie shop, retro cocktail bar and gourmet Caribbean restaurant, with more eateries on the way including a whiskey bar, coffee shop and taco spot.
Seven of the eight new shops are opening south of Eastern Parkway in a section of the neighborhood seeing a lot of new residential development.

OPENING SOON
241 Rogers Ave. at President Street
The opening of this new coffee shop on Rogers Avenue and President Street is weeks away, according to its owner, a former chocolatier and baker. The shop will server Cafe Grumpy-roasted coffee, baked good and chocolate and it's currently hiring baristas.
406 Rogers Ave. at Sterling Street
When it opens this month, this 1,400-square-foot storefront at Rogers Avenue and Sterling Street will be the 10th location in the city for the Mexican food chain Oaxaca Taqueria. They’ll serve tacos, burritos, enchiladas and other locally-sourced Oaxacan food with most dishes going for under $10. The taqueria is also opening stores at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
► Wild Whiskey Warthog
227 Rogers Ave. near Union Street
This whiskey bar will open in late summer, said owner Carlos Russell, who hopes to bring live music and food truck vendors to the new watering hole. The space has a backyard and seating for about 30 people, he said.
OPEN FOR BUSINESS
225 Rogers Ave.
Serving specialty cocktails in a throwback, 1950s-era-looking bar, the owners of Clinton Hill’s Hanson Dry opened Branch Ofc. near Union Street in mid-February. The space has a backyard, two pinball machines and is open seven days a week.
355 Rogers Ave. at Sullivan Place
This gourmet Caribbean restaurant also serves as a catering business for owner Rawlston Williams, a French Culinary Institute-trained chef who opened the eatery at the corner of Rogers Avenue and Sullivan Place in February. The menu includes Caribbean-inspired specials and “Island Bowls” that mix your choice of meat with spicy sauces over chickpeas, rice or potatoes.
1136 President St. near Rogers Avenue
The owners of the Eleven Thirty Six catering company opened a coffee and pastry take-out window at their President Street store last month, said chef Nahvae Frost. The menu includes pour-over coffee, tea, sandwiches and savories like their blue cheese and caramelized onion scones and banana muffins with walnuts and toasted millet, each for $2.50.
167 Rogers Ave. at St. Johns Place
The second location of this Harlem-based coffee shop opened on Rogers Avenue and St. Johns Place in January, designed specifically for those who use coffee shops as their workplace with tons of outlets, free Wi-Fi and big work tables. Its menu includes coffee, tea, bagel sandwiches and lots of pastries.
446 Rogers Ave. between Lefferts Avenue and Lincoln Road
Friends Alison Pels and Maddy Gentile opened this pie shop in March, serving a rotating menu of slices (for $4 each) along with pastries, beer and wine. The two may serve brunch at some point inside the new cafe, which has lots of tables and a long bar with stools.
