NEW YORK CITY — Sunshine and warm weather are expected to roll into New York City this Memorial Day weekend, just in time for the opening of the city's beaches.

After a dreary week of cloudy days, the sun's expected to come out on Friday with highs of 74 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The good weather will continue throughout the weekend with temperatures climbing up to 77 degrees on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

While temperatures are forecasted to reach 76 degrees on Memorial Day, there's a chance of thunderstorms hitting the city from 6 a.m. to midnight.

Aside from catching sun at beaches, you can enjoy this weekend's warm weather watching an outdoor movie, an arts festival in the Lower East Side or spending a day in the Bronx.
