Man in Pleated Khakis Sings the Heck Out of '80s Pop Hit on F Train

BROOKLYN — His outfit was normcore but his vocal stylings made him stand out from the crowd.

Nearly 30 years after Level 42's "Something About You" topped the charts, a singer in pleated khakis dusted off the '80s pop hit and gave it new life on the F train this week.

The vocalist serenaded the subway car with lines like, "Those diamond dreams they can't disguise the truth" as expressionless passengers looked on. He was backed by a guitarist and keyboardist who gave the song a funky beat.

The performance caught the attention of "Rolling Stone" contributor Matt Taibbi, who tweeted a video of the group along with a plea for help finding them.

Taibbi got a response from @JamesDennin, who said he'd seen the group sing "Cruisin'," to which Taibbi replied,  "If you see them again, please tell them Rolling Stone is looking."

Could a "Rolling Stone" cover be in the future for this mystery group?

The F train is a fitting setting for the resurrection of "Something About You." The music video for the song, which featured lead singer Mark King wearing clown makeup and an oversized yellow plaid suit, takes place in part on a passenger train.
