FORT TILDEN — A new exhibit is offering artists as young as 14 years old a chance to show off their talents.

Rockaway Artists Alliance is celebrating its 20-year anniversary with a new exhibit that will show paintings, photography and sculptures from artists ages 14 to 26.

"I would describe emerging artists as people who aren't afraid to experiment," said Tracey Green, who co-curated the show called The Young Emerging Artists.

"I'm determined to get fresh faces here," she said. "It's about bringing in a new generation who are equally passionate and equally as good."

Greene — a 23-year-old Belle Harbor resident who studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology and now works in public relations — scouted artists she knew from school and others through social media to compile works for the show, she said.

The show opens March 28 with a concert by local band Black Rabbit.

The show will also help kick off the spring season at the cluster of galleries and builds off of the success of last year's Rockaway! exhibit, which was a partnership with MoMA PS 1.

Green suspects that hordes of sunbathers will flock to the unprotected beach near the galleries, as the weather gets warmer. She hopes all the additional foot traffic will get more eyes on local art and Rockaway Artists Alliance.

"Now is the time to capitalize on last summer and everything that is happening," Greene said.

The Young Emerging Artists show runs from March 28 to April 19 at the T7 building at Fort Tilden, 169 State Rd., Roxbury. Opening reception will take from 6 to 9 p.m.
