BREEZY POINT — One person sustained minor injuries after a cabana at a beachside resort caught fire Thursday afternoon, officials said.
The fire started inside a cabana at the Breezy Point Surf Club at the tip of the Rockaway peninsula at around 2:30 p.m., according to the FDNY.
It was under control before 3 p.m.
The victim was taken to St. John's Episcopal Hospital and is being treated for minor injuries, according to the fire department.
It's not clear what sparked the blaze or how much damage was sustained to the 16' by 8' cabana, which costs up to $4,625 to rent for the whole summer, according to the club's website.
The club offers smaller accommodations including 6’ by 4' bath cabins and 12' by 6' "cabanattes."
A general manager of the Breezy Point Surf Club declined to comment on the fire.
