BROOKLYN — The man driving a BMW that slammed into the back of a garbage truck killing one of his passengers Wednesday morning was charged with drunk driving, according to police.

Garfield Gwood, 26, was traveling south on Utica Avenue in a 2010 BMW sedan with two passengers when he slammed into the truck, which was making a left turn from Utica onto Avenue D at about 1:30 a.m.

Passenger Marquis Willis, 22, was rushed to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Gwood, who lives on Linden Boulevard, and the other passenger were taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.

The sanitation truck's 31-year-old driver, who worked for a private company, was also issued a ticket because he had an open warrant for littering, a police spokesman said.

Gwood arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated.
