New Father Among 2 Killed in Eastchester Shooting, Relatives Said

EASTCHESTER — A new dad was shot dead along with another man inside a car on Rombouts Avenue Friday morning, according to relatives and police, who were questioning a man in connection to the double murder.

Jermaine Johnson, 28, and the other unidentified man were sitting in the front seats of a car outside 370 Rombouts Ave., near Light Street, about 4:45 a.m., when a gun man opened fire on them, an NYPD spokesman said.

Johnson, a new father, was sitting the driver’s seat when a man shot him in the torso, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man, 23, was shot in the head and torso. He was pronounced dead at Jacobi Hospital, the spokesman said.

"He just had a baby boy a month ago," said Yanique Johnson, the new dad’s 26-year-old sister. "He's a good brother. He loves his family. I loved him so much."

Police caught a man running from the scene and took him in for questioning, the NYPD said. He had not been charged with the double murder as of 7:30 a.m., according to police

The circumstances of the shooting were not immediately clear.
