QUEENS — Two people were seriously injured in an Edgemere crash Wednesday that involved an NYPD squad car, witnesses and FDNY officials said.

The two vehicles, a black sedan and a police car, smashed into each other near Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 41st Street about 6:30 p.m., witnesses and a Fire Department spokesman said.

Two people were taken to Jamaica Hospital with serious injuries, according to the FDNY. It was not clear which car the injured were in during the crash.

The squad car's rear was bent upward in the crash, with the back seats caved in, and the driver's side door was ripped off, photos from the scene show.

The black sedan's front was badly damaged as well, photos show.

The NYPD was not immediately able to provide any details about the crash.
