THE BRONX — A jealous outer-borough cabbie stabbed the mother of his 2-year-old baby to death after stalking her and her new beau and using his taxi to run their SUV off the road Wednesday morning, police said.
Dionis Espinal, 31, of The Bronx, was ordered by a judge to stay away from 20-year-old Katherine German — who had split up with him after he allegedly punched her in the face in a Bronx apartment on May 26, court records show.
But Espinal lay in wait for her outside the Paradise Hotel on Boston Road Tuesday morning while German spent the night with her new boyfriend, sources said. When the pair left the hotel shortly before 4 a.m. Wednesday, Espinal gave chase, rear-ending their Honda Pilot with his cab at Pelham Parkway and the New England Thruway, police said.
As the SUV lay on its side, Espinal, who has a 2-year-old child with German, ran over to the car and stabbed her repeatedly in the neck and torso, cops said.
German was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
German's new boyfriend got minor cuts in the crash, but refused medical attention at the scene, police said.
Espinal, who had worked at Kiss Car Service in The Bronx until his hack license was suspended after the May assault, was arrested at the scene, cops and Taxi and Limousine Commission officials said. A worker at the car service company declined to comment.
He was charged with murder, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal contempt, cops said.
Her mother, Fernanda Rivera, told NY1 that the couple had a tumultuous relationship.
"Very jealous. All the time, he was following her, where she going, where she's talking. It was everything in her phone, everything that she's got to do, he was knowing it," she told the cable news channel.
In the May domestic violence attack, Espinal knocked German to the ground and then got on top of her and continued to punch her in the face, giving her a black eye, bloody nose and busted lip, according to court records. She was treated at Bronx Hospital.
Espinal was charged with assault, menacing and harassment, according to court records. The order of protection was set to expire on Oct. 8, sources said.
