WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Word Up Community Bookshop will formally open its new Washington Heights location with a celebration later this month.

The all-volunteer bookshop, which is moving into a new home at 2113 Amsterdam Avenue at the corner of West 165th Street, announced its opening date on Facebook Tuesday.

"We're getting ready. And we hope you will join us in celebrating at our GRAND REOPENING on FRIDAY, JULY 26th @ 6pm!"

Word Up's reopening marks the end of a saga that began last August when the bookshop left its West 175th Street home after losing its month-to-month lease. The bookshop's members spent months searching for a new space, viewing more than 20 locations in Washington Heights before settling on the Amsterdam Avenue space.

To pay for the new space, Word Up successfully raised $60,000 on Indiegogo and received grants from the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance and Columbia University's Medical Center Neighborhood Fund.

In the Facebook post, the company gave an update as to how they've spent the money thus far.

"We're making sure that all your contributions have been put to good use," the group posted. "We've renovated the space, and we've moved the books out of storage. We're doing calisthenics. We're gathering furniture."
