COBBLE HILL — A Brooklyn judge ruled Thursday that William Thompson Sr., father of mayoral candidate Bill Thompson, will act as mediator between Long Island College Hospital and its employees, according to reports.

The elder Thompson once served as a city councilman, state senator and judge for the New York Supreme Court.

For months, LICH doctors, nurses and administrative staffers have been battling to keep the hospital open for care. SUNY Downstate Medical Center, which owns the hospital, is hoping to sell it to another operator.

“Putting people together is what I do,” Thompson Sr., 88, told the Daily News.

SUNY officials cut ambulance and critical care services to the hospital last week, angering LICH advocates.
