GRAMERCY — At a new comedy club in Gramercy, brunch is no laughing matter.
The Stand, which opened in September on Third Avenue near East 20th Street, has decided to serve weekend brunches, offering a new menu that includes Peking duck and afternoon-appropriate cocktails — but with no comedy.
The owners said the entertainment will continue to be reserved for nighttime hours, when the downstairs stage hosts big-name comics including Judah Friedlander, of “30 Rock,” Colin Quinn, formerly of “Saturday Night Live,” and comedienne Janeane Garofalo.
During brunch, however, the owners have decided to let the club’s food speak for itself.
"Chef Seth Levine is well known for his brunch," said Paul Italia, one of the owners. "So we always knew from the start brunch was going to be a focus for us and a big winner."
The new brunch menu, which was available beginning Saturday, includes several crossovers from the club’s nighttime menu, including The Stand burger, served on pretzel bread, and the chicken pot pie bread bowl.
But there are also several new additions. Red velvet waffles are served with cream cheese icing, cookie dough pancakes are drizzled with hazelnut chocolate sauce and eggs Benedict are topped with a choice of bacon, crab cake or Peking duck.
The bartenders have also whipped up several specialty cocktails for The Stand’s brunch debut, including the Blood and Sand, made with Dewar's blended scotch, Carpano sweet vermouth, Cherry Heering liqueur and fresh orange juice.
Brunch at The Stand will be served Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. Prices for the brunch entrees range from $11 to $19, and the club will offer a prix fixe menu, which includes a cocktail, for $18.
