$5.1 M Rockaway Home Breaks Queens Sales Record, Report Says

By Nigel Chiwaya | August 7, 2012 12:27pm

NEPONSIT — There's a new king of Queens real estate.

A waterfront beach house in Neponsit became the borough's most expensive sale after it was purchased for $5.1 million on Friday, according to a published report.

According to the Daily News the house, at 137 Beach 146th St., features five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a swimming pool, a two car garage, and a half basketball court all on a double lot.

The purchaser of the house is Cary Pollack, managing director of the Meridian Capital Group, the paper said.

The house's price tag eclipsed the previous record-holder, a waterfront house in College Point that sold for $3.7 million, accordin to the News.

The sale comes during a housing boom for the Rockaways, with prices across the area increasing 13 percent within the last year. In fact, a nearby house on Beach 143rd Street sold for $1.1 million on July 3.

Still, Queens sale prices are no match for Manhattan or Brooklyn, whose record home sale prices are $90 million and $12.5 million, respectively.
