PROSPECT HEIGHTS — The Brooklyn Nets aren't wasting any time in their NBA turf war with the New York Knicks.
The crosstown rivals will face off for the Nets' season opener at the new Barclays Center arena on Nov. 1, according to published reports.
The match-up will be the first regular season game for both the Knick and the Nets, who are moving from New Jersey to Brooklyn.
Though the game is months away, trash talking about the inter-borough battle has already started. Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joked recently that "any Brooklyn resident who remains a fan of the 'Manhattan' Knicks would be guilty of 'treason,'" Gothamist reported.
Film director Spike Lee, who grew up in Brooklyn and has offices a few blocks from the Barclays Center, has said the Nets' presence in his home borough won't make him switch from being a Nicks fan.
"I am happy for Brooklyn, but I'm not leaving my beloved orange and blue," Lee, who is often courtside at Knicks games, recently told New York magazine.
