MANHATTAN — Screenwriter and director Nora Ephron, who died on Tuesday, was perhaps best known for her romantic comedies, and her most famous films were set right here in New York City.
In honor of her long-running love affair with the Big Apple, DNAinfo.com New York has put together a few scenes from some of Ephron's most beloved films.
In "When Harry Met Sally," which premiered in 1989, the film's most iconic scene takes place in Katz's Delicatessen on the Lower East Side, where Meg Ryan famously fakes an orgasm at her table.
When she's finished, an older woman seated nearby remarks, "I'll have what she's having."
In "Sleepless in Seattle," the film's climactic moment takes place atop the Empire State Building on Valentine's Day.
In "You've Got Mail," the owner of a small, independent children's book store does battle with a Barnes & Noble-like newcomer to the Upper West Side.
Even one of Ephron's most recent films, "Julie & Julia," centers partly on a New York City-based blogger trying hard to emulate the renowed chef Julia Child.
Ephron's connection to New York was not lost on Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who called news of her death "devastating."
"From her earliest days at New York City’s newspapers to her biggest Hollywood successes, Nora always loved a good New York story, and she could tell them like no one else," Bloomberg said.
