ALLERTON — An 88-year-old grandmother was bludgeoned to death in her Bronx apartment Saturday morning, police said.

Evelyn Shapiro, 88, was discovered lying unconscious and unresponsive in her Williamsbridge Road apartment by her daughter and grandson shortly before 10 a.m., a police source said. She was declared dead at the scene.

“The apartment was a complete mess...blood all over the place,” a source told the New York Post. “They beat her savagely.”

The Post reported that the attackers stole a large amount of jewelry from Shapiro's apartment. Police, however, said they could not confirm whether anything was taken.

No arrests have been made, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
