NEW YORK CITY — It's Apple, on a diet.
The uber-popular computer manufacturer unveiled a sleek new edition of its flagship laptop, the MacBook Pro at the opening of its Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco Monday.
Apple CEO Tim Cook delivered the keynote address, announcing the new MacBook, updates to their iPhone and computer operating systems and a new version of MacBook Air, FoxNews.com reported Monday.
The new 15-inch MacBook Pro is just 0.71 inches thick, down from 0.95 inches, has an ultra high-definition Retina display and weighs about 4.5 pounds.
"There has never been a notebook this thin, this light, and this powerful. It's an engineering breakthrough," said Phil Schiller, senior vice president worldwide marketing.
But your wallet will also be lighter after buying the new gadget — it will start at $2,199.
The MacBook Pro is not the only Apple product getting an upgrade — the MacBook Air will be faster with a new "Ivy Bridge" processor by Intel.
The new software includes updates for Apple's new operating system, Mountain Lion, like better integration with Twitter and Flickr, which will be available in July for $19.99.
iOS 6, which is used for mobile devices, will have better integration with Facebook and improvements to Siri, its voice recognition assistant.
Apple aficionados won't have to wait long for the new gear because the new MacBooks are available through Apple's website.
