ELMHURST— The family of a 21-year-old mom who was gunned down on Mother’s Day believes the deadly shooting on Grand Central Parkway may have been a case of mistaken identity, reports the New York Post.

Taveras was reportedly gunned down while riding in the passenger seat of a BMW with a man she had just met when a car pulled up alongside and spraying the vehicle with bullets. Taveras sustained a gunshot wound to her head and was dead by the time the driver delivered her the hospital, police said.

“It’s like a puzzle,” Taveras' cousin Evelyn Taveras told the Post. “Everybody’s hurt. Everybody wants to know what happened. There’s no answers.”

A New Jersey resident, Taveras grew up in Queens and returned over the weekend to meet with her friends. She met the driver of the car, Rafael Herrera, just that evening, the Post reported.

Herrera has not been charged in the incident. Police still are searching for a motive for the shooting.

Taveras leaves behind two children aged 4 and 1 1/2 years old, according to the Post.
