21-Year-Old Woman Dies from Gunshot Wound to the Head

ELMHURST — A 21-year-old New Jersey woman died of a gunshot wound at a Queens hospital after she was brought in off the street, police said.

Police received a 911 call from Elmhurst General Hospital Center at 3:43 a.m. The hospital reported that the woman, Stephanie Taveras, of Irvington, N.J., had been transported to the hospital by way of a private ride and that she had sustained a gunshot wound to her head, police said.

Taveras was pronounced dead upon arrival at the 79-01 Broadway facility, cops added.

Police said no arrests had been made by Sunday afternoon, and that the investigation was still ongoing.
