Man Dies After He's Pushed Into Road, Dragged by Car and Run Over: NYPD

By Katie Honan | October 23, 2017 1:23pm

CORONA — A man died when he was pushed onto Roosevelt Avenue, struck by a car, dragged nearly 50 yards and run over by the driver who reversed over him after realizing he'd struck the man early Sunday, police said.

Pedro Perez, 51 from Jackson Heights, was arguing with a woman at 112th Street and Roosevelt Avenue just after 5 a.m. when a security guard from a nearby business intervened, NYPD officials said.

The guard pushed Perez into the street, where he was struck by a driver in a black sedan heading west on Roosevelt Avenue, police said.

The driver dragged him approximately 145 feet, but then stopped the car, saw Perez under it and reversed over him again, according to police. It wasn't immediately clear how police knew the driver saw Perez under the car.

Perez died at Elmhurst Hospital, police said.

Neither the driver nor the security guard were immediately arrested, police said.

Police said they were still investigating.
