Official Christmas Observance Brings Monday Closures and Schedule Changes

MANHATTAN — Christmas Day may be over, but government and city offices, banks and public schools are closed in observance of the holiday on Monday. 

Garbage and recycling pickups and mail delivery resume Tuesday. Post offices are closed throughout Manhattan with the exception of the James A. Farley branch at 421 Eight Avenue. 

The New York Public Library is closed.

Alternate side of the street parking is suspended and Manhattan residents do not need to feed the meters. 

Subways operate on a Saturday schedule and buses are running on a Sunday schedule, according to the MTA website

Metro-North runs on a Saturday schedule

New Jersey Transit trains are running on an “enhanced weekend schedule, with extra “peak period” service on select lines,” according to the service's website

Mail delivery is suspended on Dec. 26, 2011 in observation of the Christmas holiday, but the James Farley Post Office across from Penn Station will remain open.
