Knicks Beat Nets at Madison Square Garden in Preseason Match Up

MANHATTAN — Carmelo Anthony dropped 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Knicks edged the New Jersey Nets, 88-82, Wednesday night in their final preseason tune-up at Madison Square Garden before this weekend’s start of the regular season.

Amar'e Stoudemire added 15 points for the Knicks, while offseason pickup Tyson Chandler had 12 boards to propel New York to its second-straight preseason win over their interstate rival.

The Knicks kick off the NBA regular season on Christmas Day against the Boston Celtics at Madison Square Garden, after the season was shortened to 66 games due to a labor dispute.

"We know it’ll be a lot different Sunday against the Celtics," Anthony told reporters after the game. "They’re preparing for us, we’re preparing for them. We have the first NBA game of the season, and we’re excited about that. We’re just ready to go out there and get this thing rolling."

The Nets' point guard Deron Williams equaled Anthony's 21 points and had seven assists, while point guard Toney Douglas added 13 points for the Knicks.

New York made headlines during the offseason by trading for the 7-foot-1 Chandler earlier this month, and followed up by adding point guard Baron Davis Monday. The Knicks waived veteran point guard Chauncey Billups, who arrived in New York as part of the deal to get Anthony, to make room for Chandler.
