MANHATTAN — A fifth man has been arrested in connection with a 2009 gang assault which occurred at TriBeCa’s Independence Plaza Complex, according to the New York Post.
TriBeCa resident Edward Gordon, 22, was arrested on Friday and accused of savagely beating a 26-year-old man, along with at least four friends, while members of the group screamed anti-gay slurs, the Post said.
The attack occurred in May 2009 outside 80 N. Moore St., according to the paper.
The victim suffered a severely broken nose, a scratched cornea and five broken teeth, the Post noted.
Four other men were arrested and charged for the assault last fall and one of them, Adan Rosado, 29, is already serving time for the attack, according to the paper.
Gordon, who is charged with gang assault and assault as a hate crime, reportedly denied involvement in the attack, insisting that the assault shouldn’t be considered a hate crime because the victim wasn’t gay.
“[T]hat guy's not gay -- we're being charged with hate crimes but he's not gay,” Gordon said after being bailed out by his father, retired NYPD officer Paul Gordon, according to the Post. “I wasn't at all involved.”
