MANHATTAN — A former aide to Governor David Paterson turned himself in to prosecutors Thursday to face misdemeanor assault charges for an alleged domestic violence incident that scandalized the Governor and led to his decision not to run for reelection, according to multiple reports.
David Johnson, surrendered to the Bronx District Attorney's office just before 9:30 a.m. and was expected to be formally charged later in the day, according to the New York Times.
Sherr-Una Booker, Johnson's former girlfriend, accused him of attacking her inside her Bronx apartment, on Halloween of last year. Johnson allegedly choked Booker, tore her clothes and slammed her against a dresser, according to reports.
Johnson was charged with misdemeanor second-degree harassment but Booker failed to show up for his court appearance after allegedly being pressured to drop the charges by Governor Paterson and two of his female staffers.
In a special investigation, Bronx Judge Judith Kaye determined that the Governor showed poor judgment in his contact with Booker but did not break any laws, the Times reported.
