MANAHATTAN — It’s official: the Knicks announced Thursday that they agreed to terms and have signed a deal with one of the NBA’s most coveted free agents. Nope, not that one.

Though the news that Amar’e Stoudemire would become a New York Knick is now three days old, the deal was not completed until Thursday, when Knicks President Donnie Walsh announced the star forward had signed on the dotted line.

The five-year, $99.7 million deal brings the Knicks its biggest star in a decade. But New York fans are holding out hope that they can still top the former Phoenix Suns star with an even bigger basketball name.

The question of where LeBron James will end up will finally be answered Thursday night, in a one-hour television special on ESPN starting at 9 p.m.

The Knicks are considered a long shot in the LeBron sweepstakes, and a live chat between Stoudemire and fans on the team's website Thursday didn't even mention King James.

However, if James does indeed end up playing for a rival team, the Knicks newest player has indicated he looks forward to facing the best in the game.

On Thursday's live chat, when asked what he thinks of when pondering the Knicks, Stoudemire replied, "I think of John Starks dunking on Jordan!!!"
