MANHATTAN — Knicks center Eddy Curry isn't just losing basketball games these days, he's losing court battles too.
Curry, who received a $10.5 million salary during the 2009-10 season, was ordered by a Manhattan court Monday to pay $1.2 million to a Las Vegas lender, after he defaulted on a personal loan worth more than half a million dollars, the New York Times reported.
The basketballer's debt reportedly gathered interest as he continued to lead a life of luxury in the New York suburbs. Curry paid $17,000-a-month in rent and $6,000-a-month for a personal chef, according to the Times.
In addition to ordering Curry to repay the lender — $75,000-a-month — the court demanded that he hand over two 2009 Land Rover SUVs and a Rolls Royce Phantom convertible, the paper noted.
However, the Knicks center isn't relinquishing his wheels without a fight, the Times said. Lawyers for both sides told the paper they were working out an alternative arrangement, though they would not specify the terms of the potential deal.
