MANHATTAN — The acting boss of the Genovese crime family and his nephew both face 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to racketeering charges in Manhattan federal court Wednesday, prosecutors said.

Daniel "The Lion" Leo and his nephew, Joseph Leo, admitted running a loansharking operation and an illegal gambling business on behalf of the Genovese crime family, US Attorney Preet Bharara said in a statement.

Prosecutors said Daniel Leo became the acting boss of the Genovese crime family in 2005 and continued to supervise a "crew" of Genovese crime family members and associates which included his nephew, Joseph.

Both Daniel and Joseph Leo are currently serving prison sentences after being convicted on extortion charges in 2007.

Sentencing on the racketeering charges will be in April, prosecutors said.
