Downtown Docket: MTA Can't Postpone Wage Increases, Judge Says

MANHATTAN — The family of a Washington Heights cleaning woman found dead in the building she worked in is filing a lawsuit against building managers. Eridania Rodriguez was found dead in a Lower Manhattan air shaft in July. Her family said a lack of security in the high rise office building is to blame. [nypost.com]

The MTA cannot postpone wage increases because of the bad economy, a state supreme court judge ruled. The decision means the agency will likely announce service cuts to help fill a $340 million gap. [nytimes.com]

A former lawyer for the city pleaded guilty to mail fraud in federal court. He must pay back nearly $400,000 to his victims as part of his plea agreement. [New York Law Journal] (subscription only)
