Downtown Docket: DA Exchanges Verbal Jabs With Mayor

Outgoing Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau took a verbal swing at Mayor Bloomberg on Thursday. The mayor's office recently accused the DA of keeping bank accounts secret from the city's record keepers. "You are looking at the aftermath of a failed power grab," Morgenthau told reporters. Lawyers for Anthony Marshall are preparing to file 75 letters and a motion to dismiss to keep 85-year-old Marshall out of prison, the New York Times reported. Marshall's grand larceny conviction mandates at least one year in prison. [New York Times]

An appellate court in Manhattan ruled Columbia University will not be able to use eminent domain to expand further into Manhattanville. Residents and business owners in the area have been vehemently opposed to the plans. [New York Times]
